When people talk about post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), most people immediately think about members of the military. Those who see combat often experience post traumatic stress. Between 10 and 30 percent of veterans from any given conflict likely experience PTSD as a result. As sad as that statistic is, the rates of PTSD in those assaulted or abused by sexual predators is even higher. When it comes to survivors of sexual abuse and assault, the lifetime likelihood of developing PTSD is roughly 50 percent.
The Sexual Assault Survivors' Rights Act was passed by a vote of 89 - 0 in the United States Senate on May 23, 2016. This federal bill specifies what rights victims of sexual violence are entitled to. Bill Cosby appeared at his arraignment hearing in Elkins Park, PA on December 30th where he was charged as a felon with indecent sexual assault. These charges stem from an incident at Cosby's home in which he is accused of drugging and raping a woman. Read more.
