Mayor’s Daughter Gets DUI After Crash

On behalf of Soloff & Zervanos, P.C. Posted in Car Accidents on Thursday, May 23, 2019.

When you are out and going about your daily routine, maybe getting a bite to eat, we know that the last thing you expect is to get struck by a negligent driver. That is especially the case if you are actually inside a building. However, we are going to discuss a recent case that happened in nearby Pennsauken.

What Happened Here?

We have learned that, on May 3, a woman lost control of her car and ended up inside of a nearby pizza shop, the Flying Crust.

According to police, the woman who crashed is Kimberly Killion, the 34-year-old daughter of Jack Killion, the mayor of Pennsauken. Killion is facing a few charges, including DUI.

Three people suffered minor injuries in the crash.

While we are thankful that nobody was seriously injured or killed in this crash, we know that this incident could have been much worse. Pedestrians are the most vulnerable group of people in or around the roadways. We commonly see the following injuries in the aftermath of a pedestrian crash like this one:

  • Spinal cord injuries (with possible paralysis)
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Internal organ damage/internal bleeding
  • Broken or dislocated bones
  • Severe lacerations or amputations

We know that nearly every pedestrian crash involved an injury or a fatality. There is no way for a person’s body to absorb an impact from a vehicle. In most cases, a person has a secondary impact with the ground that causes even more damage.

We know that the people in the story above never expected that they would be struck by a vehicle while they were inside a restaurant. These incidents are often unexpected and happen in areas where the pedestrians have the right-of-way, including crosswalks, intersections, and parking lots.

All too often, we see cases where impaired drivers pose a threat to pedestrians. However, we know that distracted drivers are just as dangerous, as are those who driver above the speed limit. When a driver’s negligent behavior causes pedestrian injuries, they need to be held accountable for their actions.
