No resident of Philadelphia wants to get involved or cause a car accident. However, accidents are inevitable. In the event of a car crash, it is the duty of all drivers to render assistance to the injured, seek medical help and report the incident to the authorities. In a recent car accident in Northeast Philadelphia, a driver continued to drive his vehicle after hitting a Pennsylvania woman.
The Philadelphia Police Accident Investigation Division is investigating the fatal hit and run accident. According to the report, a 33-year-old woman was struck by a tow truck along State Road in Northeast Philadelphia. The victim was hit while crossing the street. The police stated that she did not use the crosswalk. Nonetheless, the driver of the black tow truck escaped from the scene after the crash.
One witness told investigators that the victim’s body was thrown 50 or 100 feet away from the impact. They added that the tow truck driver did not even stop to help the victim. They tried to help the woman until the paramedics arrived. She was transported to Aria Torresdale Hospital where she died.
The car accident victim sustained a broken neck and severe head trauma due to the impact of the crash. The authorities are planning to charge the tow truck driver with vehicular homicide.
The authorities always conduct an investigation in the event of a traffic accident in order to determine the probable cause of a crash. If the incident is an alleged hit-and-run accident, there is the possibility that the driver was negligent. If that is the case, the driver may face criminal charges and civil liabilities. Those liabilities may include compensation for the damages caused by the car accident, ranging from funeral costs and medical expenses and even emotional losses.
