What Are Some Common Causes Of Truck Accidents?

Posted in Truck Accidents on Friday, February 26, 2016.

Although all types of motor vehicle accidents have the potential to be devastating, truck accidents are among the deadliest types of accidents. Commercial trucks can weigh thousands of pounds and that much weight travelling at high speeds can create a deadly force. Because trucks can pose such a threat to other vehicles on the road, truck drivers are expected to abide by certain federal trucking regulations. When they fail to do so, a devastating accident may occur.

There are a number of common causes of commercial truck accidents. Many of these involve the failure of either a trucking company or a trucker to abide by federal trucking regulations. Sometimes, a driver may receive inadequate training, causing him or her to commit an error that would have been avoided had the driver been trained properly. Other times, too, a trucking company may engage in dangerous business practices, such as encouraging truckers to drive at faster speeds or longer hours and offering them monetary incentives for doing so.

Drivers of commercial trucks are also expected to get adequate rest in between shifts. When a trucking company requires an unrealistic schedule, and the truck driver cannot get enough rest, the fatigued driver may cause an accident to occur.

These are just some of the ways in which a failure to abide by federal trucking regulations can result in an accident. Negligence on the part of a truck driver or the flouting of a trucking regulation may result in either party being found liable in a truck accident. Victims of such accidents may wish to consider consulting with an attorney in order to learn what rights they might have in these situations. In many of these cases, it is appropriate to take legal action.
