Too many Philadelphia residents auto mechanic work probably seems like an easy job compared with construction work or industrial plant work. Unfortunately, no workers are exempt from workplace injuries or a workplace accident. For that reason, it is important for employers to monitor potential hazards in the workplace.
According to a recent report, police responded to Negretes Auto Service in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, after receiving a call regarding an incident. Authorities reported that a male auto mechanic who was working underneath a vehicle in the auto shop was killed. Apparently, the vehicle fell on top of the worker. Police stated that one of the jack stands that was holding the vehicle in place reportedly collapsed. The male worker died at the scene of the accident. The workplace accident remains under investigation.
A workplace accident that causes a fatality is devastating. However, such a tragic situation should remind employers about their responsibilities to their employees. Employers are responsible for determining hazards that may affect the safety and health of employees. They should also provide safety training in order to prevent workplace accidents and maintain workplace safety. Additionally, employers should ensure that every device that is used in the business is in good condition. Otherwise, the life of a worker may be at risk for injury or worse.
Accidents on the job can be a traumatic experience for a worker and a worker’s family. If a fatal workplace accident occurs, the family may be devastated and the family may also be faced with financial challenges. However, the family of the deceased worker may be eligible for workers’ compensation benefits, provided that the loved one was covered under workers’ compensation or the company had workers’ compensation insurance.
